Mystery Reveal - Rotating Tower Case with 925 Jewelry Oysters Fizzers and More
An Edison pearl is a large, round cultured freshwater pearl, usually 9 to 12mm at DezLin and up to about 15mm, grown around a bead nucleus inside a freshwater mussel. It is prized for size and a bright, often metallic luster, and it is a real pearl. It is the biggest pearl most people will ever pull out of an oyster, which is why DezLin seals Edisons into their own oysters, bombs and loose-pearl listings.
Most freshwater pearls start from a sliver of tissue, which is why they stay small and often off-round. An Edison pearl starts from a mother-of-pearl bead placed inside a freshwater mussel. Over several years the mussel layers nacre (the pearly coating) around the bead, and the bead gives the pearl its size and a rounder shape. That bead-nucleated method is how the pearl reaches 9 to 15mm. Edisons are still cultured freshwater pearls: the farm starts them and the mussel grows them.
DezLin grades its Edisons as Grade 3 and 4 on its 4A scale, which means a visible dimple or an off-round pearl is normal in the oyster listings. Near-perfect Edisons are available by special order; ask for current pricing.
Yes, more than a standard party pearl, and size is the reason. Pearl value climbs with size, luster, roundness and a clean surface, and an Edison scores on the first two by nature. A 9-12mm Edison from a DezLin oyster is a real keepsake pearl worth setting in sterling silver. A matched, round, flawless Edison pair is fine jewelry and priced like it. What an Edison is not is a South Sea pearl: South Sea pearls are saltwater, grow in a different oyster, and sell for far more, though an Edison gives a similar look at a fraction of the cost. Rather than an appraisal figure, the grading chart and size chart are the honest way to judge one.
Every DezLin Edison is a real cultured freshwater pearl, and "Edison Natural" oysters hold natural-color, non-fading pearls. Where an Edison is color-treated, the listing says so. Two tests help at home: a dyed pearl may feel smoother than an undyed one in the tooth test, which does not make it fake, and a dyed pearl can shift slightly with heat and light. The full dye disclosure is on Are pearl party pearls real?.

Wash with a drop of dish soap in warm water, rub gently with a soft cloth, and dry well; fading from liquid seeping into a treated pearl can be permanent. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray and heat, and store it apart from harder jewelry.
A large cultured freshwater pearl, usually 9 to 15mm, grown around a mother-of-pearl bead inside a freshwater mussel. The bead is what lets it grow so big and round, and the result has a bright, often metallic luster.
Yes. They are cultured freshwater pearls, started on a farm and grown by a living mussel over several years, the same way almost every pearl sold today is grown. The bead nucleus is inside the pearl, under years of nacre.
More than a standard 6-7mm party pearl, because size and luster drive pearl prices. A round, clean, large Edison is worth setting in sterling silver and a matched pair is fine jewelry. Expect a dimple or two on oyster-grade Edisons; perfect ones are rare and cost more.
South Sea pearls are saltwater pearls from a larger oyster and sell for far more. An Edison gives a similar size and glow from a freshwater mussel at a fraction of the price. "Better" depends on budget: South Sea for heirloom value, Edison for the look.
Some are, and DezLin says which. "Edison Natural" oysters and loose pearls marked "not dyed" are natural color. Any color-treated Edison is labeled as treated on its listing.
9 to 12mm is the usual range at DezLin, 8 to 10mm in the budget oyster, and up to about 15mm by special order. Compare that with the 6-7mm pearl in a standard Akoya-style oyster; the Edison is visibly bigger in the hand.
