No, our oysters are no where near being edible. They are specifically cultured for the purpose of revealing pearls. They are not stored properly and contain preservatives you do not want to injest.

YES! All our pearls are real freshwater cultured pearls or Salt Water pearls from Japan. We source them directly from farms to ensure their authenticity and quality. We have been in the pearl business since 2015

Opening Oysters

• Use scissors to cut open plastic and remove oyster from packaging
• Cut or break off the outer rim of the oyster shell to create a slight opening
• Insert a shucking tool or a butter knife about halfway into the opening you created, taking care not to insert the tool fully to prevent damage to your pearl. *Do not use anything sharp*
• Position your oyster on its side with the tool still inserted and press down along the opening towards the hinge muscle, separating the halves of the shell (repeat on opposite side if necessary) 
• Twist your tool to pry the halves apart revealing the pearl hidden inside
• Clean pearls with a damp cloth as needed or wash with warm soapy water using a mild detergent (ensure water is not hot as it can damage the pearls)

Mount Jewelry

• Using a 0.75mm electroplated diamond drill bit we offer or similar, drill a slight hole halfway into the pearl for mounts or entirely through for necklaces, bracelets and anklets.
• Ensure pearl fits on mount comfortably then remove before gluing.
• Apply jeweler’s epoxy glue (preferred) or super glue to mount post of jewelry as well as inside the pearl’s hole (you may use a toothpick for better accuracy).
• Gently fit the pearl to the post, twisting slightly to spread glue inside pearl and to ensure a comfortable setting. Quickly wipe away any excess glue.
• Hold the pearl/mount setting firmly in place using a clamp or clothespin while glue hardens.
• Allow glue to dry for 24 hours before wearing.

Dry Oysters
We suggest to refrigerate oysters to lengthen the freshness. Occasionally oysters may be dry due to higher temperatures during transportation. Another reason for dryness is due to farmers injecting less liquid inside of the oysters to save on shipping cost since the pandemic. This is an industry-wide change DezLin has no control over, however; a dry oyster is no indication of the quality of the pearl inside.

Odor
Possible odor may be present. Oysters inherently have a scent to them, some being stronger than others, and this is in no way a reflection of the quality of the pearl inside. Always store oysters in a cool, dry space to prevent spoilage.

Methanal/Formaldehyde
Freshwater Oysters contain a minimal amount of methanal (formaldehyde synonym) diluted with water to help keep the shell sealed and is really only an issue for people with a sensitivity. Saltwater Oysters such as Akoyas and Red Shells do not contain formaldehyde. Please take precautions when handling if you have a sensitivity.

Our Akoya oysters contain freshwater pearls primarily for a few reasons, costs, health, and sustainability and is a standard practice in the reveal industry

Freshwater pearls are more affordable and allows the ability to provide a wider variety of pearl colors through a dying process and shapes to customers.

Formaldehyde, or methanal, is utilized in freshwater oysters to preserve their condition during transportation and storage, as they are more delicate compared to saltwater oysters. This preservative helps prevent decay and maintains the integrity of the pearls until they are revealed. In contrast, saltwater oysters are hardier and do not typically require formaldehyde for preservation.

Lastly, Freshwater pearls offer a more eco-friendly option and is a more ethical sourcing practice, as their cultivation has less environmental impact compared to saltwater pearls.

"Embedded Natural Pearls" refers to pearls that are naturally formed within the oyster shell. These pearls are not artificially inserted or cultured by humans but instead develop naturally over time as a result of the oyster's biological processes.

The embedded pearls come in various sizes and shapes, ranging from 2 mm to 15 mm. Petite pearls are fantastic for glass lockets and look great when filling up space with larger, colorful pearls or charms and gems. Medium to larger pearls can be used for mounting, cage pendants, lockets, and display purposes. Please note that you're purchasing a diverse range of pearls at a discounted rate, and variations such as spots and natural hues are common.

Shop Natural Monsters with Embedded Pearls

We offer a wide range of metallic and vibrant colors, including metallic copper, lilac purple, rose gold, gun metal blue, earthy green, periwinkle, blue steel, red orange, gold, forest green, yellow, and gun metal gray.

We also carry regular colors such as: blue, bronze, blueish teal, magenta, deep coral, lime green, midnight blue, Southern Belle yellow, silver, midnight purple, midnight green, hot pink, red wine, purple, salmon orange, and more.

DezLin would not be able to guarantee oysters that wholesalers mail home to their customers for “Open-At-Home”.

Example: If you own a business and purchase wholesale from us and mail an oyster to a customer, they open it, and the pearl is faded or missing, etc., we would not be able to guarantee.

Reason: We are unable to authenticate whether or not the oyster in question is actually ours.
